BEST PRACTICES
Even when not required by environmental regulations, the following best practices
are recommended.
- Hazardous waste transfer notes are legal documents and it is
recommended that a limited number of personnel be authorised to
sign WTNs.
- Personnel authorised to sign WTNs must be trained in the school’s
hazardous waste management, administrative and record keeping
procedures.
- Prior to signing the WTNs, the authorised individual should
verify that:
· Containers are properly labelled.
· Correct types and quantities of wastes are listed on
the WTN.
· Containers are in good condition and appropriate for the type of waste.
- Only direct full time employees of the school or university
should be authorised to sign hazardous WTNs. Students, contractors
and part-time employees should not sign WTNs.
