Container Labelling/Management |
If you went into your kitchen and found that all the labels had been stripped
off the cans, how would you know what was in them? You might be able
to identify the soup-but what kind of soup is it?
The same is true at your school’s hazardous waste storage
facility and within Storage Areas. It is critical to maintain good
housekeeping in this area, to help protect human health, ensure
safety and help prevent release into the environment. (Another compelling
reason is that environmental regulations require it!)
Properly labelling containers so that contents and hazards are
known is just one of the regulatory requirements for maintaining
a hazardous waste storage area. Others include:
- Storing compatible wastes together
- Providing secondary containment
- Keeping containers closed when not in use
