It is critical to maintain good housekeeping in this area, to help protect human health, ensure safety and help prevent release into the environment. (Another compelling reason is that environmental regulations require it!)

Properly labelling containers so that contents and hazards are known is just one of the regulatory requirements for maintaining a hazardous waste storage area. Others include:

• Storing compatible wastes together
• Providing secondary containment
• Keeping containers closed when not in use
