Water Treatment Additives |
Trade Effluents> Details
The key issue regarding water treatment additives including, but
not limited to polyphosphates, polyester, phosphates, chlorine,
bromine, and polyacrylates (typically used in cooling water systems)
is they may enter the cooling water and if discharged to either
a sewage treatment works or to a surface water, then water pollution
control regulatory requirements are likely applicable to your power
plant.
In general, if your institution discharge any waste liquid, Trade
to either foul sewers, or to surface waters or ground waters, which
is clean rainwater, then this is 'trade effluent' which can include:
- waste chemicals, including oils
- detergents,
- liquid process wastes,
- condensate water from compressed air installations,
- cooling water,
- biodegradable liquids,
- wash water,
- liquid wastes or wash waters, other than domestic sewage,
- discharged using sinks, basins or toilets, and
- contaminated mine or quarry water
You always need to obtain permission from your Statutory Sewerage
Undertaker in the form of a Trade Effluent Consent or Trade Effluent
Agreement before you discharge any of these waste.
