Spill Prevention Control
What should I do if an oil spill occurs?
- Try to prevent the spill from entering drains or watercourses;
use earth to block its flow, or sand or commercial absorbents
to soak it up.
- Notify your Environmental Regulator on the Emergency Hotline,
0800 80 70 60
- Keep absorbent materials near to the oil store so that they
are easily accessible when they are needed
- Train all staff in what to do in the event of a spillage and
how to use any oil spill equipment.
Best practice and guidance should also be followed. The regulatory
agencies 'Oil Care Campaign' details excellent advice on all elements
of oil storage, use and disposal. Further details can been by clicking
