It is important to ensure that all employees handling waste oils receive appropriate training to prevent wastage and pollution. Make sure that they are aware of and understand the procedures.

As previously mentioned, waste oils and other wastes found in the grounds/vehicles facility, especially solvents, are generally classed as Hazardous Waste, under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005. Under these regulations, you must:

  1. Introduce instructions for storing and disposing EACH AND EVERY kind of Hazardous Waste produced on your premises. Ensure that all employees and contractors are provided with and follow these instructions.

Effective training will teach staff how to store, handle and correctly dispose of waste oils, with particular emphasis on what to do in the event of a spill.
