Household Hazardous Materials
|
STORAGE/DISPOSAL > Details
Up to 5% of household waste can be classified as hazardous due
to its potential to harm human health and the environment upon disposal,
or proves to be problematic to dispose of (due to durability of
material).
The Environment Agency estimates that 5 million tonnes of hazardous
waste arose in England and Wales in 2002. However, only approximately
100,000 tonnes of this was from households and other municipal sources.
Nevertheless, it is important that householders take care when disposing
of hazardous materials.
