STORAGE/DISPOSAL > Overview
A typical print room can potentially generate hazardous waste as
a result of cleaning off the printing press with a liquid solvent
or solvent wipes/rags. For example, if the solvent on the rag is
characteristically hazardous (ignitable) and the rag is saturated
with liquid, then the rag would be a characteristically (ignitable)
hazardous waste. If the solvent were a listed solvent, then the
rag would be a listed hazardous waste. Unused inks, solvents and
other chemicals may result in a hazardous waste classification that
you will have to manage according to hazardous waste regulations.
In addition, waste ink with chromium, lead and/or barium may be
classified as a regulated hazardous waste. More information concerning
waste management and reduction is presented in the "Best Practices"
and expanded sections of this EVC section.
